What do these numbers on our sewing machine actually mean ?
Actually this is the stitch dial on our sewing machine adjusts the stitch length, that is the easy part.
But why 0-1-2-3-4-5-6 ?Same thing with many other machines ,again, 0-1-2-3-4-5…….,These numbers indicate your stitch length in millimeters.
For everyday sewing,we want it to be about a 2.5 to 3mm maybe. Now say we’re working with a light fabric.well then we want to reduce that down to maybe a 2-1.2 even. If we’re doing some top stitching, let’s increase it again.Maybe we do that at 3-3.5 perhaps. And then if we’re doing a basting stitch.which is meant to just temporarily hold 2 pcs of fabric together, well then we just crank this baby right up to the top.
And this is what all those different stitch lengths look like.
